Monthly Gear Giveaway - Patreon

Recently I posed the question to see if there would be an interest in a monthly gear giveaway. The votes are a unanimous YES! (See here:http://bit.ly/2GE4I25

With the addition of a Patreon account we can do just that!

It's simple really...

I get enough memberships to reach the $500 goal and then every month the members will help pick out what gear will be purchased, reviewed, and then given back to the community (Patreon Members only).

Installation Troubleshooting-Cakewalk by Bandlab

Recently there have been a number of people having trouble installing Cakewalk by BandLab. In most cases this should be a relatively simple fix. Today I'm going to work out some of the reoccurring issues that have been coming up and hopefully get some of you on your way to using one of the best FREE DAW's on the market. Now, although I may not be able to help all of you due to limited knowledge of your personal computers specs and other variables. These system checks should be applicable to most users.

A couple things to be aware of. Cakewalk is only 64-bit, there is no longer a 32-bit version. Likewise there is not a Mac version of this software as of yet. Therefore, it will only install on Windows operating systems. Cakewalk by BandLab is available 100% free for 64 bit Windows 7, 8, and 10, delivered exclusively via BandLab Assistant. For the initial activation the DAW machine must be online. Even though it is free, you need a BandLab account to activate the software, otherwise it stays in demo mode. After the initial installation, you need only go online to update if you desire to do so.

First, let's make sure that you're downloading and installing Cakewalk properly. Open up your internet browser and follow this link: https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk

Here is a short list of steps for installing Cakewalk by BandLab:
1-Install BandLab Assistant
2-Login using Facebook, Google, or by creating a Username and Password combination
3-Click the Apps tab, then locate the Cakewalk logo. Underneath, you'll find a button that reads Install
4-Click Install and follow the prompts. The first window is for add-on items. You can simply click OK without checking any boxes if you do not wish to install any add-ons

When the installation is complete, you will have a desktop icon for Cakewalk by BandLab, and the Install button within BandLab Assistant will now read Open. You can use either the desktop icon or the Open button to launch. When an update is available, the Open button will change to Update.

If you see an update error or experience any difficulty while attempting to update BandLab Assistant, you may want to remove your existing version and reinstall the latest version. Note: An update notice will appear when an update for BandLab Assistant is available. I recommend staying up to date to ensure the best experience
1. Ensure that the BandLab Assistant is up to date.
2. Make sure that your firewall settings are allowing the BandLab Assistant access
3. When installing turn off any Anti-Virus protection software
4. Run the downloaded executables. You only need to run instruments.exe if you don't already have SONAR installed. Otherwise, just run cakewalk.exe to install the core application. If you continue to have any trouble, take a screenshot of any errors and reach out to them at support@cakewalk.com so they can further assist or go to: https://help.cakewalk.com/hc/en-us
